Darlene Haun
Darlene Haun participated in the AmeriCorps Stream Team program from November 2004 – November 2005. Prior to her AmeriCorps year, she had been a special education teacher/program director for l7 years and a Stay At Home Mom for 8 years. Darlene’s assignment was split between Stream Team and the Great Rivers Greenway, so in addition to ST presentations, New Team Welcomes and monitoring, she began a string of projects on the six-mile section of Deer Creek and Shady Creek that will be developed as the Shady Creek Greenway and Bike Path. To date these projects have included litter pickups, water quality monitoring, honeysuckle removal/re-vegetation, and public awareness. She has established and fostered 4 new teams to adopt sites along that six-mile stretch of urban creek.
Darlene has been very active in organizing litter pickup events in St. Louis County and Jefferson County, which earned her the unofficial and rather dubious title of “Queen of the Litter Pickups.” But, also removed over l2 tons of trash from Missouri’s waterways in her one year as an AmeriCorps member. Currently Darlene is working for the Stream Team on temporary, half-time basis as a Stream Team Assistant, providing local assistance to teams in St. Louis and Jefferson County.
