Kelly White

Hi, my name is Kelly. I served as an AmeriCorps Stream Team Assistant from September 2006 – August 2007. I love being near water, especially when it involves paddling a boat over rapids, and I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education.
I choose the AmeriCorps Stream Team program because I have always enjoyed helping others and I care deeply about the preservation of our natural resources. As a Stream Team Assistant I was able to do both!!
As a part-time member in the St. Louis area I was all over the place! I actively worked with the River des Peres Watershed Coalition on several litter pick-ups and tree planting events. I spent time water quality monitoring various St. Louis creeks with local Stream Teams. I also went to lots of schools and public events to talk to people from all walks of life about the Stream Team program.
Overall, my experience as a Stream Team Assistant was great! I now have the ability to organize large-scale events, I’m a skilled water quality monitor, and I have made lots of great contacts that will allow me to stay involved with water quality issues for years to come.
My plans after the AmeriCorps are going lead me to the classroom, where I will be a middle school science and social studies teacher, and the Stream Team program will indeed be a part of my curriculum.
