Sarah Wolken

My name is Sarah Wolken and I love being outside.
Otherwise, I am a recent graduate of the University of Missouri-Columbia with a BA in English and minors in History and Italian. I have worked quite a few outdoor jobs prior to the Stream Team AmeriCorps Project, including a naturalist position at Thousand Hills State Park in Kirksville, Missouri and a Student Conservation Association internship in Afton, Wyoming.
I chose to be an AmeriCorps Member because I would have the opportunity to work with the Stream Team Program and its many volunteers (and the job description seemed too great to pass up, who wouldn’t want to work in streams?).
As an AmeriCorps Member, I have had the opportunity to build and maintain strong relationships with dedicated volunteers, learn about water quality and integrate rain barrels into the local community, helping to conserve stormwater and reduce stormwater runoff to local streams and waterways.
I will be starting classes this fall at the University of Missouri-Columbia (again) but this time towards an MS in Fisheries and Wildlife.
The Missouri Stream Team Program has so kindly offered me a temporary position that begins in August, so I’ll get to further my love for streams while always learning more.
The Stream Team Program has taught me the worth of volunteers and their efforts and has instilled in me a (renewed) responsibility for both the outdoors and the quality of Missouri’s water.
Thanks for the year!
