2007-2008 AmeriCorps Stream Team Assistants Project

The Missouri Stream Team Program, Missouri River Communities Network, and several local sponsors are entering the second year of the Missouri AmeriCorps Stream Team Project. Eight fulltime and four halftime Assistants have been placed in several communities in Missouri including St. Louis, Columbia, Kansas City, Springfield, Kimberling City, Houston, Pineville, and West Plains (Contact List). Local sponsors will provide office facilities, local supervision and administrative support. The Assistants will spend half of their service time on the sponsor’s stream-related projects, and half assisting other local Stream Teams.
Projects completed by Assistants include those listed below.
- Welcome calls to new Stream Teams
- Water quality monitoring demonstrations and mentoring
- Stream cleanups
- Rain barrel and rain garden education projects
- Ecologically-sound lawn and garden maintenance
- Storm drain stenciling
- Onsite wastewater education projects
- Stream water quality monitoring
- Statewide unclassified stream assessment
- Presentations on water quality monitoring, stream dynamics, stormwater management, and miscellaneous stream-related topics
- Earth Day events
